COMPOSITION

Let’s talk about how we can improve photos by setting the subject properly. Framing the subject is more than getting the angles right, meaning, if we want out subject to pop out, we need to add some elements to make sure that the viewer’s eyes will be directed where we want it to be, and produce an astonishing photo.

This is the basic rule of photography, and by using this technique, we can create a more pleasing and balanced photo.

We divide the frame into 9 equal parts using horizontal and vertical lines. By doing this, we create certain intersections in the frame and that’s where we put important elements, because our eyes are naturally drawn to these intersections.

For landscape photography, we can use the horizontal lines to line up the horizon of our scene. 2/3 of the frame is commonly filled with what’s more interesting such as city landscapes.

Although it is an essential rule, there are times where breaking this rule will result into a catchier photo. So don’t let yourself be limited by this rule, and be more artistic!

Using frames will give your photo depth. It separates foreground from middle ground and background. Rather than putting your subject in the open, natural frames also leads the eyes of viewers into the subject, making it stand out instantly.

Using leading lines subtly guides the eyes by using natural lines which draws the eyes of viewers towards the subject. Leading lines also manipulates the focus of the photo which emphasizes depth of field. The subject may be at the end of the line, or in the middle where lines would be directed the the subject. Many lines can also be used to draw viewers’ attention.

Using multiple techniques creates a strong composition. Combining these things will definitely boost your photography into a whole new level. However, these rules are not constant and you don’t necessarily need to follow all of these at once to produce an amazing photo. So feel free to roll your creativity out and use what’s best for every situation

The Journey Begins

I will consider myself as a ‘forever-student’ of photography. Each photo is a learning experience for me and my passion for it as a true form of art will continue to grow. My addiction to color and shadow pushes my creativity to new heights. I always try to capture the best in every situation with every click of the camera, and appreciate being in that moment, as it will only be there for me once in a lifetime. I am always hungry to develop curiosity, and I find photography to be the best medium to let myself grow out of that curiosity.

Photo albums have always been a part of the culture I grew up in. And it remained to have a special place in me to keep all the exceptional memories I have with everyone I love. Nowadays, it’s getting rarer to see someone sticking printed family photos in a hardbound album. But this doesn’t mean that the spirit of albums are dying as well, in fact it is growing larger than ever. Applications such as Pinterest, Facebook and Instagram are built-in to be an accessible album to show everyone the memories people continue to build over the years.

The best pictures are the ones that take us on a journey, and the journey is more important than the actual destination– Steve McCurry.

Photo albums tell stories of you which you want to share and be proud of. And your story can’t be told by anyone better than the photos itself. In this blog, we will be tackling the basics of photography, such as proper lighting and composition. Further into the blog, we will get into the advanced part, from different kinds of photography such as portrait, landscape, still and motion. We can even get as far as editing! This blog will serve as an inspiration to those who simply find the joy of photography, and even up to the professional level, and will be a guide to improving the sense of making photography more than an art form.  So I encourage you to go out and be curious about the world we live in.
